DECISION MAKING STYLE AND NEED
PATTERN AS PREDICTORS OF TEAM EFFECTIVENESS
Neha Verma, Dr. S. Rangnekar, Dr.
M.K Barua
pp 23-34 (2011)
Abstract:
Business executives differ in terms of decision making styles and need pattern
of their behavior. It is seen that recently organizations have began to
restructure the work processes around teams with members who may have different
decision making styles and need patterns. Indian executives are usually said to
make intuitive decision by listening to their inner voice or gut feeling; and
they also differ in terms of their needs. It is an empirical study of Decision
Making Style and Need Pattern as Predictors of Team Effectiveness. The paper
describes the concepts of Decision-Making, Need Pattern and Team Effectiveness
and is supported by literature review which suggests that no research has been
carried out related to Decision Making Styles, Need Pattern and Team
Effectiveness in the Indian Organizations. This study is a pioneering effort to
investigate the relationship between these three variables together.

Arun Kumar, Shikha Chiktey, Dr.
Deepali Singh
pp 35-54 (2011)
Abstract:
In the ever increasing competition of today’s global market, the need for
effective product promotion is crucial. In the prevailing marketing environment,
product packaging is playing an important role as a brand communication vehicle.
Little research has been conducted within this area and hence the purpose of
this research work is to provide a better understanding of how packaging plays a
critical role in effecting customer’s perceptions. This research work provides
answer to the question like how different positioning strategies effect consumer
perception about the packaging attributes and relationship between various
packaging attribute for fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) in Indian market. Due
to the fact that the area of package design is quite extensive and vast, the
present study is focused on examining the package design in the Indian FMCG
market.

Influence of the Post-Crisis
Situation on Cost of Capital and Intrinsic Liquidity Value in Non-Profit
Organizations
Dr. Grzegorz Michalski
pp 67-78 (2011)
Abstract:
Cash maintained in nonprofit organizations is not a source of any interest and
although the close to cash assesses together with credit lines available for
enterprise are connected with resigning from realization of the part of incomes
or costs, firms decide to maintain some liquidity reserves. Not only this,
resulting from transactional needs, but also from precautional and speculative
reasons. Investment in liquid reserves resulting from speculative demand for
money may be assessed by usage of capital budgeting methods like: Net Present
Value (NPV) or Internal Rate of Return (IRR) or as a call option.
In the research paper, each of these aspects of liquidity was taken into
consideration and presented from nonprofit perspective. Nonprofit liquidity
value determination may often significantly contribute to the solution of
working capital management problems in these organizations.

Adoption of Lean Manufacturing
Practices in Small and Medium Enterprises, (SMEs) - A Lean Enterprise Vehicle
Approach
Dr. M. V. Subha, S. Jaisankar
pp 88-94 (2011)
Abstract:
The SMEs sector plays a significant role in the economic development of any
country. Lean Manufacturing Practices are implemented successfully in many
large-scale manufacturing industries but not profoundly in the case of Small and
Medium Enterprises (SMEs). This paper attempts to explore the extent of use of
Lean Manufacturing Practices in SMEs and its successful adoption. The authors
applied the model developed by Corner (2001) that demonstrates lean adoption in
SMEs using the Lean Enterprise Vehicle model. The Lean Vehicle approach is a
simple and easy method for SMEs that helps to identify the areas where the
company has to improve so as to achieve a balance that results in successful
adoption of lean practices.
The degree of lean adoption is assessed based on the four critical business
principles such as; Production & Inventory Management (PIM), Total Quality
Management (TQM), Total Organizational Buy-in (TOB), Lean Manufacturing
Techniques (LMT). The paper also attempts to prove adoption of lean
manufacturing practices that result in better operational benefits. The paper
provides a direction for further research to assess the level of balance a firm
possesses in each business principle and on which it is deficient.

Health and Violance Against
Women in Disaster: Preliminary Findings
Minakshi, Prof. P.C.Joshi, D.Guha-Sapir
pp 95-101 (2011)
Abstract:
The principal objective of this paper is to provide a general overview of the
problems experienced by people during recent flood disaster in Bihar, with
special reference to the issues of health and violence against women. The
findings are primarily based on the basis of the study conducted in the flood
affected districts of Bihar i.e., Saharsa and Supaul where people were in
temporary relief phase and struggling for longer term rehabilitation. Different
types of disaster have differential impact on the population.
Flood disaster in Bihar leads to displacement for longer period of time in many
parts of the state where many villages are completely washed off making women
more vulnerable to further sufferings. However, in this paper, the main
attention is on women in disaster situation, it becomes important to
differentiate the condition of women, in the situation that permits return to
the original home, shortly after the flood and those that displace them for long
periods of time. According to the findings, the former is associated with the
situation where women are better placed than latter where women has to face more
hardships and sufferings leading to poor health condition and making her
vulnerable to victimization.

Influence of Corporate
Culture on the Dynamics of Indian Family
Mohit Rajan
pp 111-116 (2011)
Abstract:
After outset of Liberalized, Privatized and Globalized policies in India during
early 1990s, India was flooded with the Multinational Companies and soon it
became the main centre of business process outsourcing. The corporate culture of
these companies influenced almost all walks of life and family was not an
exception.
In this paper, I have made an attempt to come up with some of the basic issues
of Indian family in the milieu of corporate culture brought by these
multinational companies and which has become an instrument of globalization in
the rapidly shrinking world. Through the ethnographic study of families, an
attempt is made to surface out the basic nuances of interactional universe
comprising of families of those professionals who are in the process of
acculturation with the culture of MNCs at one hand, and have been brought up in
the environment dominated by Indian traditions and customs, on the other.
My final argument appeals to redefine the traditional anthropological notion of
family keeping in mind the context of contemporary India.

Culture Influence on
Sustainable Development in Swaziland: Effects on Women in Small Business
Development
Dr. Patricia N. Joubert
pp 117-125 (2011)
Abstract:
World developments require democratic systems of governance that encourages
effective integration of every member of society in their special, economic,
political and cultural spheres of life. Women in Swaziland, in their endeavours
to engage in the opportunities of the Small and Medium Enterprise (SMME) sector,
are constrained by deeply ingrained stereotypes and attitudes towards women in
society. Marginalisation persists despite recent improvements in the legal
status of women. The study focuses on the role of women in small business
development in Swaziland, highlights the nature of constraints that persist, and
analyses existing gaps that warrant support. This requires affirmative action to
change long ingrained stereotypes and attitudes. It is envisaged that in the
long run, Swaziland will reap benefits by promoting meaningful and sustainable
development hence, minimising poverty and dependency on men who are often not
dependable.

Impact of Displacement
through the framework of Social Justice: An Anthropological Insight
Rahul Kumar
pp-126-133 (2011)
Abstract:
The development induced displacement has come to acquire special significance
due to the rapid race for development in increasingly changing world. In the
line of development, numerous urban development and hydroelectric projects as
well as the industries have been set up in India; which finally led to the
displacement of more than 60 million people but surprisingly very few of them
have been resettled and rehabilitated successfully. Even after more than a half
century of independence, not enough attention has been paid to the costs paid to
the rights of displaced people in terms of social justice and the resultant
degradation in the lives of people, not to mention the increasing disempowerment
and impoverishment of the poor.
In an effort to better understand the plight of those displaced by development
projects, this paper attempts to look into the issue of displacement on the
broader canvas of social justice through anthropological inquiry.

Management on Supply Chain Performance of JKI Limited: A Managerial Perspective
Prof. Neetu Andotra, Bhupinder
Kaur
pp 134-143 (2011)
Abstract:
To regain the competitive edge, companies began to adopt productivity and
service delivery improvement programs which had proven themselves particularly
successful in Japan and other industrially developed countries. One of these
“improvement programs” is the total quality management (TQM) system. The present
paper examines the impact of TQM on supply chain performance of Jammu & Kashmir
Industries (JKI) Limited.
Survey data was collected from 171 managers of 11 manufacturing units of JKI.
The results of findings concluded the need for renewed focus on quality control
techniques & quality management concept, redesigning product-mix through
technically innovative process, activating market intelligence and building
strong linkages with R&D institutions/agencies & universities.

In this paper, the organization’s sustainability is analyzed, which are
committed to the exploitation’ activities of Tule Thypha spp at the Zapotlán’s
Lake and its socioeconomic and environmental impact in the municipalities of
Gómez Farías and Zapotlán el Grande. The initial hypothesis delimits the
consideration of the scarce social capital of the organizations which limits
development’s sustainability.
The research method employed is the ethnography complemented with field work
supported by informal interviews, documental and bibliographic research. The
main conclusion is that there is not equilibrium between organization’s
sustainability due to scarce social capital, environmental and economic
development sustainability

Satisfaction of Customers
towards Cable Television Services in Karaikudi Town
G.Vimala, Dr. R. Ganapathi
pp 153-163 (2011)
Abstract:
The cable operators in India began their services in 1993. At the beginning only
limited people had their own television sets. In rural areas only a few people
had black and white televisions. Other had to watch programmes on TV only in the
houses of rich. Only a few customers were available to the cable operators. Due
to the development of technology and life style, it has become a necessity.
Every family has a minimum of one TV. The service of the cable operators in
yester years was somewhat better than the services that are provided at present.
People face problems from cable operators for many reasons.
The village people suffer a lot by the cable operators. They depend on cable
operators for their entertainment. The cable operators disconnect many channels
to avoid the burden of rent payable to various channel operators and also to
minimize the power consumption. Karaikudi town has also many cable operators and
subscribers of various channels. Inspite of paying the cable operators properly,
they do not get all channels whenever they want to watch. To know all the
problems and issues, a thorough study is to be undertaken. Hence, the
researchers as a preliminary step, tried to write the research paper in order to
adder the issues related to cable television services.

An Ethnographic Account of
Hindu Ashram Life among Hungarian Krishna Followers
Orsolya Szász
pp 164-172 (2011)
Abstract:
The study shows a case of transculturation between Hungarian and Hindu-Indian
culture pointing out the great potential of ideas coming from the Hindu
philosophy for giving new perspectives to the European way of thinking rooted in
Christian cultural ideology.
In the few decades elements of Hindu culture and philosophy have reached Hungary
as well. We can find in Hungary different yoga schools, some gurus teaching
Hindu philosophy and also members of Krishna follower communities, a school of
Hindu philosophy became quite commonly known with the presence of ISKCON
(International Society for Krishna Consciousness). The paper tries to find out
the nuances of interaction between Hindu and Christian culture in Hungarian
socio-cultural environment, entirely different from the homeland of Hinduism.
The case study of the life of a Hungarian Vaishnav community shows us how Hindu
cultural elements can be altered by Hungarian customs, vice versa and how the
life in Hungary can gain new perspectives from novel ideas of a different
culture.

Management Education for
Business Needs – An Analysis from Indian Perspective
Karanam Nagaraja Rao, Sindhuja Bhaskara
pp 181-187 (2011)
Abstract:
Management education is a powerful means to mould a student by providing
capacity creation and make him an expert in managing the business firms. Unlike
other streams of knowledge viz, social sciences and mathematics, the management
education has a specific purpose- the purpose of nurturing and nourishing the
management skills and make the students equipped with the art of managing varied
situations that come across in the business environment. As businesses function
in congruence with society, the future manager is required to learn societal,
environmental and cultural milieu in which the firm operates apart from the
demands of the conventional stakeholders. An attempt is made in this article to
articulate a few suggestions for making management education a relevant tool for
business needs of the business firms.
